7 Best Games for PS4 Pro

The Top 7 Best Games for the PS4 Pro

The PS4 Pro by Sony is no-doubt the most powerful gaming console till date. Featuring a much better graphics card, improved processor complemented with 8 GB DDR5 RAM that has got a greater bandwidth, the PS4 Pro is capable of running games at 4K resolution display with higher framerates and HDR support.

This article will put forward the top 7 best PS4 Pro games that use the power of the PS4 Pro to deliver outstanding graphics!

Best Games for the PS4 Pro

Even though all PS4 games will also run in the PS4 Pro, not all of them possess the capability to utilize the power of the PS4 Pro.

While several PS4 games have been patched to render a better display in the PS4 Pro, actually the difference is not as high as should be. The reason behind this is that most games simply upscale the resolution to 4K and doesn't use checkerboard rendering which can be used to provide truly great graphics.

However there are still many games which have been patched considerably well, so as to let you enjoy games at true 4K + HDR display, and those have been listed below.

(P.S- Watch the videos in 4K to understand the difference)

1. Resident Evil 7 The Best PS4 Pro Game

The latest in the Resident Evil franchise, this game provides an excellent experience in VR. It supports 4K and HDR in the Pro mode and offers excellent image quality too. The high range in colours and the amazing clarity make the gaming experience in the PS4 Pro truly great.

Also pixel precision, lighting buffers and the higher framerate makes the game smooth and truly enjoyable in the PS4 Pro.

Resident Evil is a horror genre game. It is meant to scare you. And that just won't happen if it doesn't look realistic. This is why it is best suited for the Pro. While ultra-sharp images don't happen, the additional pixel precision and the increase in contrast along with the Pixel precision does make the game stand apart in the list.

Dark and dingy atmosphere is made better by the 4K resolution and higher contrast while bright and vibrant atmosphere is improved upon in this console by the HDR and anti-aliasing solution.

Therefore this is the Best Game you should buy for your PS4 Pro.

2. Gran Turismo Sport

The powerful engine featured in Gran Turismo Sport puts to test the PS4 Pro's power quite effectively. With 4K display, HDR, 60 fps and 18 GB of VPS uncompressed stream, the display and graphics in this game are nothing other than awesome when run on a PS4 Pro.

The tracks, sunlight reflection and even the scratches and dents in the cars look extremely realistic in the PS4 Pro.

As I had mentioned in my review of the PS4 Pro, that the HDR upgrade, though available in few TVs, is actually an even better upgrade than the 4K resolution because of the multifarious improvements that it brings, Gran Turismo Sport is a perfect testimonial to the benefits of HDR.

About 11% cars don't fit into the standard range of colours but with the debut of HDR in the PS4 Pro, that has changed. If you are a hardcore gamer, and have a PS4 Pro, then this game is a must-buy for your console.

3. The Last of Us Remastered

The Last of Us Remastered had some problems in the PS4 Pro in the beginning but now it's all fixed. It can run at 4K resolution with an unlocked framerate of 60 fps. Image quality is pretty good with high quality shadows and better clarity and contrast. As such the graphics is quite enjoyable in the PS4 Pro mode.

If the resolution is toned down to Full HD, then the framerate attains a much stable 60 fps. However if you use a 1080p TV then the PS4 Pro fails to supersample this game due to the latest patch. However the graphics that you will get from the PS4 Pro is nothing short of amazing in this game.

4. Hitman

The game runs in 4K resolution in PS4 Pro mode but sadly doesn't feature HDR. But don't get your hopes down because, the graphical improvements that this game has is truly noteworthy. It uses Pro's better GPU and memory to render better quality textures, and add more details.

Apart from the increase in resolution, reflective surfaces look much better, lighting effects are more detailed and the aliasing has been reduced.

Even without a 4K TV, Hitman when run on the PS4 Pro supersamples and offers, better shading and less flickering highlights. All in all, it is a great game for your PS4 Pro, utilizing the consoles extra power for great graphics and display.

5. Rise of the Tomb Raider

As shown in the video above, Rise of the Tomb Raider will have three display settings for the PS4 Pro:
  • 4K Resolution Mode - The game runs at the highest resolution (UHD) with the framerate maintained at 30 fps.
  • High Framerate Mode - The game runs at Full HD (1080 pixels) resolution with higher framerate (60 fps) for much smoother gameplay and animation. The controls also feel more responsive.
  • Enriched Visual Mode - The game will run at 30 fps at Full HD resolution but the overall picture quality is improved.
On the Enriched Visual Mode the PS4 Pro uses its power to improve graphic features like hardware tessellation, anisotropic filtering, add foliage in the game, increase the quality and detail of objects or rocks at a far distance, fine-tune Lara's cinematic hair, shadows, depth and distance of view.

As such, the improvements in Rise of the Tomb Raider are worthy enough for it to be one of the best games for the PS4 Pro.

6. The Last Guardian

While this game is out for both PS4 and the PS4 Pro, it actually requires serious power to be able to run effectively. Infact, this game is not for a PS4 but actually for the PS4 Pro.

With good lighting, texture, the game stutters and its framerate often falls below 30 fps in a PS4.

While it supports both 1080p and 4K in the PS4 Pro, in 4K TVs its resolution will not exceed 3360 × 1890 pixels. Also, its framerate is a stable 30 fps in the Pro, with a visibly improved image quality.

However I feel that FHD resolution in the PS4 Pro makes its framerate more stable.

Coupled with the fact that the game uses high quality motion blur, it is definitely one of the best PS4 Pro games.

7. Battlefield 1

Last but not the least, this is one of my most favourite games. Battlefield 1 dynamically scales the game resolution in the PS4 Pro. Apart from that it uses temporal anti-aliasing along with checkerboard upscaling.

When you play the game in 4K, there is a great improvement in the image quality and because of supersampling, HD TVs dont lag far behind the 4K ones either!

Even with improvements in terrain details, higher quality textures and a better display, this game does not fall behind in performance, offering an unlocked 60fps framerate.

As you can see from the video, the improvements to the graphics is quite noteworthy in the PS4 Pro compared to the original PS4.

Bonus Games for the PS4 Pro

While I have already listed the top 7, Ratchet and Clank is a Pixel-animated game that really caught my attention. Using 4K display resolution and HDR , the framerate at a stable 30 fps, it is a game worth considering for your PS4 Pro.

Fifa 17 by EA is also a worthy game for the PS4 Pro. It lacks HDR but it does make good use of the 4K resolution prowess of Sony's Pro. At a pretty good and stable framerate speed of 60 fps, the game improves upon the environment image quality such as the grass and players. Also depth of field effects have been significantly improved upon.

Uncharted 4: A thief's End has been optimized for the Pro too. Taking an opposite road to most games, it does not feature 4K resolution. Also its framerate isn't 30 fps. But what it does give is HDR! HDR is my most loved feature for a variety of reasons and I have already explained it in my PS4 Pro Review. The brightness, contrast and the heightened image quality brought about by HDR is by no means a small feat. Suitable enough for your PS4 Pro, you should get it, provided your TV supports HDR! (Update: Unchartered 4 now features 4K with Full HD optional

Final Fantasy by Square Enix is a pretty good looking game too! Though the framerate may not be good enough, it uses a 1800 pixel checkerboard upscaling and combines with improved shadows and textures.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has also now been tuned up for the PS4 Pro. It now features a dynamic resolution, better graphics. Also the scenery is more detailed. What's more, there is also 60 fps playback framerate!
