Best Phones In the world 2017

2017 has marked several changes and new phones in the smartphone industry. Apple's iPhone, the king of mobile phone market has been dethroned by Samsung with its Galaxy S series and stiff competition has been in place by Google Pixel and Sony Xperia XZ. The following is the list of the best smartphones in the world available for sale RIGHT NOW. As buying a flagship phone is a rather costly affair, this post is kept updated regularly so that you don't fall into a wrong choice!

BEST PHONES of 2017 : Ultimate Comparison

The list however is not of a value-for-money list rather the most power packed phones available in the market. For the best VALUE-FOR-MONEY PHONE, Check out the ONE PLUS 3T.

The Best Phone: Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are the latest flagship phones by Samsung. It would not be an exaggeration to call these two phones as the best phones of 2017.

The S8 and S8 Plus have been rated by DisplayMate Technologies to have the best phone display ever. With QHD+ (3K) display resolution and having HDR in its display, the phone also uses a technique known as sub-pixel rendering, which makes its display look even more sharper. Its brightness can also achieve a highest of about 1000 nits. The S8's display is 5.8 inches and the Plus variant's display is about 6.2 inches diagonally.

Apart from that, the phones have 4 GB RAM with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 or Exynos 8895 processor depending on where you buy it. According to benchmarks, the Exynos 8895 variant is way ahead of the Snapdragon 835 and even more ahead than the iPhone 7 Plus.

Both have an internal storage of 64 GB with support for external storage.

While the rear camera has a few upgrades, the EIS has been further optimized to take three shots whenever you take a photo and then collaborating them for additional reduction in both blur and noise.

The front facing camera is where the real magic is. It has got a 8 MP sensor and a f/1.7 lens accompanied by autofocus, which is a rarity in most phones.

Also, there is the Bixby. It is Samsung's new digital assistant, which has a very high potential and may even supersede Google Assistant and Siri. Read all about Bixby here.

The battery in the S8 is 3000 mAh while that in the Galaxy S8+ is 3500 mAh. It may seems less but considering the power usage in the Snapdragon 835 is 20% lesser than its predecessor and in the Exynos 8895 is 27% lesser, it should not be much of a matter of concern.

2nd Best Phone: Sony Xperia XZ Premium

Sony Xperia XZ Premium

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium was the first phone of 2017 to feature the Snapdragon 835 processor. It also has 4 GB RAM and a 3230 mAh battery.

It has a 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) IPS LCD display. However in reality, the S8 and S8 Plus have a better display.

Well, it is because of much more accurate colors, and more screen modes in the S8 and S8 Plus. It also has a greater color gamut and the Oled screen offers theoretically infinite contrast ratio and perfect blacks.

However, the Xperia XZ Premium's display is in no way below "amazing".

It's internal storage is 64 GB with support for external storage through Micro-SD till 256 GB.

Its primary (rear) camera has a 19 MP sensor, a f/2.0 lens, 25 mm, EIS (Electronic Image Stabilisation), predictive phase detection and laser autofocus.

Its secondary (front) camera has a 13 MP sensor, f/2.0 lens, 22mm, 1/3" sensor size and 1.12 ┬Ám pixel size.

3rd Best Phone: OnePlus 5

OnePlus 5
OnePlus 5; I currently use this phone and when I say, it's awesome, I am not exaggerating. The phone is packed with the top of the line Snapdragon 835 processor and comes with an option of 6 GB RAM with 64 GB storage or 8 GB RAM with 128 GB storage.

Obviously with such great specs, OnePlus couldn't keep the price tag much down. But compared to the other flagships like Samsung's Galaxy S8 and Sony's Xperia XZ Premium, this beast is much cheaper.

That's not all. Its camera is now extremely more powerful and can shoot 4K videos too. While it doesn't have a IP rating, the pros of this phone far outweighs its cons and make it the third best phone out yet and also my recommendation. The OnePlus 5 is available at Amazon for $528 while the better model costs a tad bit more.

Some other features of the OnePlus 5 are a 5.5-inch screen with Full HD display, a 20 + 16 megapixel rear camera and a 16 MP front camera. It has a 3300 mAh battery.

4th: HTC U11

The best phone by HTC; but not the best phone in this list. I found the huge bezels kind of unimpressive. It kills a lot portion of the skin.

Anyways, packed with QHD display, 6 GB RAM, 2.45GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and a 12 Ultrapixel primary rear camera and a 16 megapixel front camera, the phone is extremely fast and powerful.

Like literally! All tasks are a breeze; but then, all the flagships can do tasks very fast as all of them are extremely power-packed. So, the comparison centers on camera, display and design. Both the display and camera are good, if not the best but the design lags back.

As for the other features, the phone packs 128GB of internal storage that can be expanded to 2000 GB via Micro-SD card. As for fuel, the phone features a 3000 mAh battery.

5th Best Phone LG G6

It has a IPS LCD display with 3K resolution. However its display protection is Gorilla Glass 3, which seems rather outdated considering the first two in the list have Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It uses a similar "Always On" display feature as that in the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.

With a 4 GB RAM and Snapdragon 821 processor, the device has two internal storage options - 32 GB or 64 GB.

Its primary camera has Dual 13 MP sensors(one with f/1.8 lens, OIS, 3-axis, phase detection autofocus) and the other with a 13 MP sensor (f/2.4 lens, no Auto-focus). The video recording is 2160p @ 30fps, 1080p @ 30/60fps, HDR, and 24-bit/192kHz stereo sound recording.

Its secondary camera has a 5 MP sensor and f/2.2 lens with 1080 pixels video recording.

6. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge cell phone was released in February 2016. The mobile accompanies a 5.50-inch touchscreen show with a 1440 pixels by 2560 pixels screen at a Pixel density of 534 pixels for each inch..

  • The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge features a Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890 processor and 4 GB RAM. The Exynos processor is vastly more battery efficient, compared to the Snapdragon. However the latter is slightly more powerful than its Exynos counterpart.
  • Its camera has 12MP resolution; the camera's megapixel count has been lessened but that is not a bad thing here because the Pixels in this phone are far bigger than those of the previous cameras which Samsung calls "dual pixel technology". This helps the camera to focus very accurately and as fast as your eye.
  • Accompanied by f/1.7 lens, which can take in more light resulting in superb low-light pictures, this phone's camera is a beast. The camera also has several features and modes to satisfy your inner photographer needs!

  • The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge runs Android 6.0, powered by Touchwiz, which has now been toned and refurbished by Samsung a lot and doesn't have all those useless non-removable apps Samsung used to clutter its phone with.
  • It is fueled by a 3600mAh non removable battery. The smartphone packs 32GB of internal storage that can be extended till 200GB by means of a microSD card.
  • The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is a double SIM (GSM and GSM) cell. It has Gorilla Glass 5 on its body. This smartphone is currently the best smartphone out there in the world.

7. Samsung Galaxy S7

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is still one of the best smartphones available in the world.

Its internal features, power and camera are all same to the S7 Edge. However the S7 Edge, um..... edges ahead with a slightly better resolution and better battery- Samsung Galaxy S7 has a battery of 3000 mAh compared to the 3600 mAh of the S7 Edge. (Read: Samsung Galaxy S7 vs S7 Edge) It has Gorilla Glass 5 on its body making it extremely durable.

8. OnePlus 3T

OnePlus 3T

The latest in the line by OnePlus; the OnePlus 3T, is true to the "Never Settle" motto by OnePlus. It boasts all the high end specs of OnePlus 3 and even more at a very low price. With 6 GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, and 3400 mAh battery, it deserves a tie-up with the Samsung Galaxy S7 if not with the Edge. Though it featured an improved 16 MP front camera with a Samsung 3PDSP sensor, I couln't place it at the number one spot because of the following reasons:

  • Samsung Galaxy S7 features a better front and rear camera.
  • Even with the improved processor, Samsung beats the 3T by a heavy margin in multicore benchmark test.
  • Samsung Galaxy S7 features a much better QHD S AMOLED display compared to the 3T.
However, OnePlus 3T does gain quite a large ground with its high RAM, latest processor, improved camera, great battery life and quite amazing design and aluminium body.

Best Phone #12.

Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL

Google Pixel Smartphone
Google Pixel is the first ever smartphone made entirely by Google. As a result, the phone delivers the classic "Google experience", i.e, fast, simple and easy to use, and really easy to fall in love with.

Body, made with aerospace grade aluminium combined with Gorilla Glass, the phone has smooth surfaces and curved edges(easy to grip) which all in all make the phone really gorgeous. Combined with USB Type-C charging and 2770 mAh battery pack, the phone has a chance to die out in the middle of the day, when under a little heavy use.

Powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and 4GB Ram, the phone is extremely powerful and you will not experience any lags whatsoever no matter how demanding tasks, the phone performs. The phone comes in a 32 GB and 128 GB storage, but beware the 128 GB version is much costlier than the 32 GB. The phone has no expandable storage slot, which is quite irritating. So do choose your storage capacity with care!

Add to that, the phone is IP53 rated, you may find it somewhat unfair as most flagships are water and dustproof nowadays. However Google Pixel has the best ever 89 DxOMark Mobile score, which is a smartphone camera test, and thus Pixel's camera is one of the best smartphone camera. Google offers Amoled screen with Quad HD display which results in a 440 ppi display density, and is thus quite an amazing display.

Now coming to the Software. Google always played its cards with its Nexus phones and in the Pixel, it has used Android 7.1, the latest version of Android Nougat, now available exclusively to Google.

Apart from the regular Nougat features, it contains a Night Light Mode for reducing eye strain in the dark and a app long press shortcut options that we see in IOS 10. There are also some minor tweaks in the software(Read: Android 7.1 details). All in all, this phone with its bumps, still is definitely a tough competitor in the list of the Best Smartphones in the World in 2016 !
